DANCE DISCIPLINES

BALLET

Ballet is the foundation of all other dance and has very particular rules about how the dancer must stand and move. This classical dance style is known throughout the world for its beauty and strength. This dance form helps the dancer achieve excellent posture, balance, strength, and grace,enhancing personal development whilst learning the fundamental techniques used as a dancer. 

 

LYRICAL JAZZ

Is a very beautiful style of Jazz that uses more of a ballet background and technique. It is slower moving than commercial jazz with a flowing feeling which requires a lot of control.Technique is of the up most importance and Students who take Lyrical Jazz are also encouraged to take ballet.

COMMERCIAL JAZZ

This is a fast paced jazz which includes many different commercial styles seen on film/ television and music videos. Examples include popular movies such as 'Step Up' and MTV. The students do a strenuous warm up working on jazz technique, posture and coordination, then they learn standard commercial jazz moves as well as choreography. Each teacher has their own unique combination of styles, however; the basic techniques are the same and can be applied to any style of Jazz.

CHOREOGRAPHY

Choreography is a great tool for any dancer to have, enabling the dancer to create their own dances and styles, These allow the dancer to achieve awareness and understanding of the music, to investigate stimulus, develop improvisation, and build on concentration and focus.

BODY CONDITIONING/ LIMBERING

Conditioning and limbering is one of the most important aspects in a dancer’s life. Being strong and flexible makes a dancer's life significantly easier and safer. The best way to condition is to keep it fun and varied. Variety in a dance conditioning program not only makes it more interesting for the student and teacher but also makes it significantly more effective. Focus on stretching,toning and strengthening the major muscle groups are vital in dance training. These emphasize proper technique and ensure both a safe and an effective class.

MUSICAL THEATRE

Musical theatre is a mix of acting, singing and dancing. Training in all three disciplines can produce a triple threat performer, a triple threat performer is someone who can act, sing and dance all at once. The world of musical theatre is fast moving and very popular with many television shows such as 'Any Dream Will Do', 'How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria' and blockbuster movies such as Chicago, Hairspray, Cats, and High school musical.

DRAMA

In drama we create a fun atmosphere building on trust and concentration which promotes good self-esteem providing all students with a sense of achievement and security. Drama plays a very important role in the personal develop ment of children, building trust, working as a team,communication, creativity, imagination, voice projection skills and risk taking in a safe supportive environment full of fun.

SINGING

Vocal training is most important if you wish to be a part of musical theatre. Most dancers now a days are being asked to sing at auditions if for a musical, as it is now commonplace that in all major musical shows all of the dancers can sing live. So good voice training is needed to develop intonation, rhythm, pitch and vocal quality. Being able to sing with expression and feeling, whilst developing good breathing techniques are vital.
